Position Information

This position is contingent upon grant funding with an anticipated end date of March 31, 2025; the possibility of being extended is contingent upon available funding.

Under the supervision of the Director, the Pipeline Programs Academic Achievement Coordinator plans and administers programs and activities designed to increase retention and graduation rates of participants for students from educationally and socioeconmically disadvantaged backgrounds and for students underrepresented in medicine. The incumbent will coordinate the Medical Scholars Program (MSP) and assist with expanding academic support programming in other Pipeline Programs. MSP provides services to 150 UCR undergraduates per year and the incumbent will assist with expanding services to 200 students annually. The Pipeline Programs offers a continuum of student enrichment activities at the high school, community college, university and postbaccalaureate levels and enrolls students from educationally and socioeconomically disadvantaged who are aspiring to careers in medically underserved communities. Pipeline Programs has six areas of services and academic enrichment activities: mentorship and academic coaching, outreach and recruitment, professional development, guidance through medical school application process, service-learning opportunities in community health education and health coaching, and leadership development. Under the supervision of the Director, the Academic Achievement Coordinator will implement activities and services designed to increase retention rates of undergraduate students and guide support them through the application process for medical school, biomedical research careers and other health professions. Please note: Budgeted hiring range is up to $68,900.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement.
Familiarity with research methodologies and research designs.
Knowledge of University, college, and major requirements, policies and procedures, including policies on handling student records and confidential documents.
Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education.
Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.
Knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services.
Knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a diverse group of students, faculty, clinicians, researchers, staff, and administrators.

Effective problem solving and organizational skills.

Knowledge of and experience working with UC

Experience working in a medical school or health professions program.
