Position Information
Under the direction of the Manager of Systems Engineering and Operations, the System Administrator is responsible for maintaining technical solutions to support the Information Technology Solutions (ITS) organization. The Systems Administrator is also responsible for operating, monitoring, deploying, documenting, patching, and troubleshooting core system infrastructure such as server operating systems, server hardware, virtualization platforms, storage arrays, and applications. The incumbent is a subject matter expert in data center-centric to Cloud-based infrastructure who envisions future state technologies, delivers increased agility, scalability, performance, and resiliency. This role will support, analyze, administer, and deploy solutions to drive technology modernization and the incorporation of industry best practices.
This position is classified as 100% remote and will work from home full-time. There may be occasional visits to the UCR campus as necessary. Working hours will be based on Pacific Standard Time (PST). This is a two-year position with a maximum budgeted annual salary of $102,500. This position may continue beyond two-years, should permanent funding become available in the future.

Basic knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs.
General knowledge of other areas of IT. Thorough understanding of and experience with systems-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
Demonstrated experience writing and editing complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.
Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
Demonstrated skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions.
Ability to manage server and infrastructure hardware in an enterprise-class data center environment. Ability to manage various storage technologies including SANS, NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, clustered files systems, and storage operating systems.
Advanced knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies such as VMware ESXi, Docker, or Kubernetes to manage virtualized workloads.
Basic knowledge of installation and maintenance of database platforms (e.g. Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, MSSQL).
Experience installing, managing and supporting IIS, Tomcat, Weblogic, or other application servers.
Experience with the following protocols: HTTP, FTP, DNS, LDAP, IMAP, SMTP, SSL, SSH, CIFS, NFS.
