Position Information

The Assistant Director is a key member of the CAPS Leadership team and takes a direct role in the management of Counseling and Psychological Services day to day operations. This position will coordinate with the Manager of Quality and compliance to ensure that CAPS maintains high standards of excellence and compliance with accrediting bodies and quality control, including coordination of peer review activities, annual and reaccreditation reporting and satisfaction measures. Provides leadership for and participates actively in urgent care and after hours on-call schedules, and maintains a small caseload. Responds and guides and supports other clinicians in response to campus emergencies and crisis situations. This position directly supervises licensed and pre-licensed clinicians. Actively supports mental health outreach efforts; and serves on University committees. The CAPS department prioritizes working with students from marginalized communities including Black/African American, Latinx, Undocumented, Indigenous/First Nations, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Multi-racial, and other students of color and various identities. A successful applicant will demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion with a deep commitment to supporting under represented groups in our community. Education

Education Requirements

Degree Requirement
Master's degree in related area or equivalent experience. Required
Required doctorate degree (Psy.D or Ph.D) in clinical psychology or counseling Preferred

Licenses

License Requirement
Licensed in a behavioral health counseling discipline. Preferred
Current valid licensure by the CA Board of Psychology OR current licensure in another state with a requirement to obtain CA licensure in accordance with the CA Board of Psychology requirements for continued practice in the state of California. Required

Experience

Experience Requirement
6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
Demonstrated experience in working with diverse populations including but not limited to Underrepresented Minority populations, African Diaspora, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, international, first-generation, veterans, student with disabilities, and LGBTQ+. Required
Minimum of 5 years experience providing clinical supervision and/or administrative supervision within a clinical setting Required
Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
Strong knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate. Demonstrated active listening, persuasion and counseling skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of behavioral health counseling methods and techniques, crisis intervention, treatment planning and case management.
Working knowledge of human resources management practices and policies.
Ability to organize operations in an efficient and effective manner.
Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Knowledge of business software, specialized applications and EHR systems used in behavioral health centers/clinics.
Demonstrated supervisory skills to guide behavioral health providers on treatment methods.
