Position Information
Position will serve as the laboratory manager for the Wilson Lab (Dept. Entomology, UC Riverside) located at the UC Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center (KARE) in Parlier, CA. Working under the supervision of, and in coordination with, Dr. Houston Wilson, the lab manager will be responsible for carrying out multiple lab, greenhouse and field experiments associated with Dr. Wilson's research and extension program in integrated management of arthropod pests of tree nut and stone fruit crops in California. Duties will also include management and training of seasonal laboratory assistants, lab organization and inventory upkeep, preparation of materials for experiments, and supporting graduate student projects as needed. The budgeted hiring range is between $50,926.32 - $60,802.56.

Minimum Requirements
Strong knowledge of entomology with an emphasis in agricultural entomology and the insects commonly encountered in tree nuts, stone fruit and figs in California.
Field entomology skills, including insect observation, collection, preservation/transport and identification.
Ability to operating vehicles, including the lab vehicle (large SUV), electric golf cart, and 4-wheel ATVs. Hitching and towing a large trailer to/from field sites, including loading/unloading ATVs.
Skills in manipulation of small organisms with forceps, tweezers, paint brush etc.
Knowledge of Insect colony maintenance and rearing, including provision of food/water, adjusting light/temperature/humidity conditions, monitoring colony health and hygiene, and use of incubators.
Working knowledge of greenhouse plant propagation and maintenance, both annual and perennial plants for use in insect colonies and experiments.
Ability to work under extreme environmental conditions (>95F, sunny, dusty) for long periods of time (8 hours/day) and independently lift 50lbs.
Competency working with stereo and imaging microscopes, sometimes for long periods of time (>4 hours/day).
