Position Information

The Career Advisor will oversee medical specialty student interest groups to integrate activities into career advising programming and services. Serve as the lead for career advising workshops, seminars, mock interviews, panels, and other career advising programs. Oversee and manage the production of career advising newsletter and residency digest including researching, evaluating, and selecting materials and articles to include. Serve as the lead to collect, track, and monitor student completion of career advising requirements and interpret and analyze career advising inventories submitted by students to inform programming and career advising counseling sessions with students. Oversee the accountability structure for the career advisors that collects, tracks, and monitors student engagement with the advisors and produce quarterly reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Associate Dean for Student Affairs. Oversee and maintain the content of the career advising website. Oversee and maintain the data infrastructure for program evaluate data as well as analyze data in order to generate presentations and recommendations on improvement and determine effective practices. Works with the Student Affairs team to help organize and carry out major events and activities such as Residency Match, SOAP, Recruitment Day, Orientation Week, graduation ceremonies and various Medical Student Life events. The maximum budgeted salary is up to $75,800.

Minimum Requirements

Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
Working knowledge of admissions requirements for the UCR School of Medicine.
Working knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements an financial aid programs at UC.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations related to the responsibilities of the position, including Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations and other institutions.
Working knowledge of UC and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective applicants and the public.
Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning, production and public relations. Organizational ability to coordinate student programs and events.
Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills necessary to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.

Knowledge of and experience with Banner or equivalent student records systems.
