Physician Specialist (Psychiatry Outpatient)

Position Information

The Physician Specialist practices medicine in an outpatient psychiatry office. Diagnose and treat illness; completes examinations; counsels and instructs patients; instructs and educates trainees and/ or staff; and may assist in public relations efforts.

This is a Per Diem appointment. Per Diem Physician Specialists are hourly paid appointees whose primary purpose is clinical service. These appointments have a variable schedule and cannot exceed 43%. These appointments may be on a pre-scheduled basis or as needed on a day-to-day basis as determined by the University.

The salary for this position is commensurate with experience and area of specialty. The successful candidates will be placed on the appropriate salary range based on years of experience ranging from the hourly rate of $95.00 - $144.97.

Education

Education Requirements

Degree Requirement
Possession of the education and legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Required

Licenses

License Requirement
Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Medical Board. Required
Maintenance of California Medical License and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) prescribing number. Required

Certifications

Certification Requirement
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Required
Eligible to sit for board certification in a relevant care specialty as determined by the American Board of Medical Specialists. Board certification required within 18 months of hire. Required

Experience

Experience Requirement
UCR has three levels of physicians; all levels require completion of medical residency and are distinguished by board certification status and years of experience. Required
Junior Physician requires board eligibility and must successfully pass the board exam within 18 months of hire. Required
Physician requires board certification and must have a minimum of 1 year of experience post internship/residency. Preferred
Senior Physician requires board certification and must have a minimum of 2 years of experience post internship/residency. Preferred
Background and skills in clinical practice, clinical teaching, and managed care. Preferred
Must meet UC credentialing requirements. Required
Experience in behavioral health inpatient and outpatient settings. Preferred

Special Conditions

Special Condition Requirement
Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. Required

Minimum Requirements

Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with staff and patients from diverse ethnic/racial backgrounds, educational levels, sexual orientations and identities.
Ability to stay abreast of new medical knowledge, and to maintain and increase expertise and skills as relevant to clinical practice.
Ability to work independently under general direction and to work collaboratively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

Computer proficiency and first-hand experience in using electronic health records systems to document patient interactions and coordinate care.
