Position Information
The Lead Access Control Mechanic performs journey-level access control and locksmith services throughout the UCR campus to ensure the safety and security of the campus community. Oversees critical day-to-day operations in supervisor's absence; acts as subject matter expert and provides leadership to team members. Installs, programs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains a variety of networked access systems and stand-alone access systems. Creates and maintains multi-level master key systems, cuts and issues keys, maintains accurate key holder records; re-keys as locks as needed, cuts and re-issues necessary keys. Installs, repairs and replaces building, door and mechanical hardware. Installs, modifies, troubleshoots and maintains surveillance equipment; maintains and monitors related surveillance systems. Provides other security and access control support, including parking lot access, safe access, and access procedures for operational closures. Maintains clear and accurate documentation of all inspections, testing and maintenance (corrective and/or preventative) performed. Updates equipment documentation, specifications and drawings, as needed. Reviews and updates all shop logs, both paper and electronic according to updates and changes. Leads and responds to emergency situations to mitigate and/or resolve immediate access control concerns or safety issues. Reviews and creates blueprints/drawings, and specifications for new construction and retrofit/renovation projects according to building code requirements. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purposes of resolving immediate safety concerns. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.

Minimum Requirements
Ability to install, modify, repair and replace a variety of networked access systems and stand-alone access systems. Knowledge and ability to program, troubleshoot and operate different types of access control systems and software with ability to repair and/or correct connectivity and operational issues. Ability to work on, repair and troubleshoot electrical circuits with voltages up to 120 volts.
Ability to install, replace, repair, troubleshoot and maintain surveillance equipment such as IP cameras, analog cameras, and DVRs. Ability to clean and adjust equipment. Ability to monitor and maintain surveillance systems and DVR systems to ensure proper functionality and recording with ability to pull video footage.
Ability to install, modify, repair and replace building, door and mechanical hardware. Experience and/or working knowledge of ADA/Auto doors and related hardware. Ability to repair and/or replace mechanical door closers. Working knowledge of code requirements relating to building access and egress control devices.
Performing skilled locksmith duties; ability to install, modify, repair and replace mechanical and electronic locking systems. Ability to create and maintain interchangeable cores and multi-level master key systems, and cut keys; ability to re-core locks. Experience and/or working knowledge of safes with dial and electronic locks.
Skill in operating shop equipment and tools common to the skilled trade. Skilled use and maintaining of electrical and mechanical tools, test equipment, key cutting equipment, materials, and locksmithing hardware (electronic and mechanical).
Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards. Knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected. Ability to estimate time, methods and materials needed from construction documents. Ability to read and understanding documents such as complex technical procedures, work instructions, blue prints, plans, manuals, specifications, and diagrams.
Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and provide exceptional customer service. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to record information accurately as is necessary to perform the job responsibilities.
