Position Information

Under the general supervision of the Chief Physician of the Student Health Services (SHS), this position provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to patients referred from SHS and the Counseling Center. This positions provides critical expertise and consultation to SHS primary care clinicians and Counseling Center staff to care for the most complex and acute mental health conditions facing students.

Per Diem appointments may be scheduled on a pre-scheduled basis or as needed on a day-to-day basis or called off from a pre-established schedule as determined by the University.

Education

Education Requirements

Degree Requirement
Graduate of an accredited Medical School and successful completion of a Psychiatry Residency at an ACGME accredited program. Required

Licenses

License Requirement
Current unrestricted License to practice medicine in the state of California. Required
Possession of an unrestricted Federal DEA license and have a Board Certification in Psychiatry. Required

Experience

Experience Requirement
Experience working in an University Student Health Center. Preferred
Experience working with college age population. Preferred
Experience working with Point and Click "EMR". Preferred
Must have inpatient, outpatient and triaging experience in assessing and treating severe psychiatric disorders and substance abuse. Required

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of and a Strong interest in working with college age patients. Awareness of special issues affecting students engaged in rigorous academic programs and experiencing life on campus and developmental issues as they impact a students adjustment to campus life. Sensitivity to issues relating to cultural diversity and the problems in adjustment faced by native and foreign students in an unfamiliar environment. Sensitivity to mental health issues of special importance to gay and lesbian student
Knowledge of issues of special importance to college/university students, including drug and alcohol use, eating disorders, chemical dependency and abuse, ADHD, LD, etc.
Knowledge of standards of psychiatric care in the greater community.
Knowledge of AAAHC requirements relating to psychiatric diagnosis, treatment and record keeping. Experience with ICD 9/ICDI0 coding, DSM-5 in billing.
Ability to work and communicate in a positive and cooperative manner in a multi-disciplinary environment. Good written and oral communication skills using fluent English, including medical charting and correspondence.
Knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality and patient privacy issues pertaining to the delivery of health care. Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and their family and providers and staff. Be able to lift 40 pounds.
Knowledge of current psychiatric diagnosis and treatment principles relating to general practice, and specifically to a young adult population.
