Position Information

The Graduate student advisor is a critical position in the Department of Political Science. The incumbent is responsible for the success of the graduate students educational journey, supplying data to the Faculty Grad advisor, meeting with students for dissertations and defense scheduling, assisting with Teaching Assistant selection, In large part responsible for navigating the application processes for all prospective and future Political Science Graduate students and all student communications regarding grad jobs, opportunities, seminar talks, and the liaison between student and graduate division.

Basic knowledge of student immigration and visa processes pertaining to international students and scholars.

Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.
Experience in Administrative tasks such as purchasing and processing work orders
Knowledge of the Graduate Program requirements
Detail oriented
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong math skills
Ability to present material about department programs at workshops
Skill in interacting diplomatically with faculty members and graduate students while dispensing potentially negative information and requiring active participation in problem resolution.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and pertinent databases.

Knowledge of University processes and procedures.

Understanding of University rules and regulations.

Demonstrated extensive and progressively responsible administrative experience.
