Assistant Coordinator, Supplemental Instruction

Position Information

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) program provides peer-led study sessions for students who want to improve their academic performance, while attending to the campus learning community programs and courses known to provide an academic challenge. The Assistant Coordinator develops and implements training programs to prepare Academic Student Employees (ASE) for their roles as SI Leaders. The Assistant Coordinator aids in the supervision of a team of ASEs, and reports to the Coordinator, Supplemental Instruction. Budgeted salary range for this position is up to $55,000. As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. All Covered Individuals under the policy must provide proof of Full Vaccination or, if applicable, submit a request for Exception (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy) no later than the applicable deadline. For new University of California employees, the applicable deadline is eight weeks after their first date of employment.

Minimum Requirements

Problem solving skills.
Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
Develops knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific; student-population specific).
Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.
Develops knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students.
Skills in judgment and decision-making.
Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills.
Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems.
Knowledge of learning theories and training models.
Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of student academic support tracking software (e.g. Accu Track or Tutor Track)

Knowledge of college and university student transition and student success.

Knowledge of UC policies and procedures concerning student academic progress towards a degree.

Skill in preparing comprehensive and in depth analysis of complex, sensitive, and multi-faceted issues, particularly under time constraints.

Knowledge of current distance technology and other techniques for efficient delivery of student academic support services.
