Under the direction of the Campus Architect/ AVC, the Assistant Director of Campus Planning supervises and manages the work assignments of professional campus planning staff, including capital, physical, and environmental planning, and also works closely with the other departments within Planning, Design, & Construction. Also leads planning efforts, and oversees consultant teams for a variety of programmatic and physical planning studies and activities to support campus planning objectives, as well as evaluating and analyzing data related to programmatic, physical and environmental planning issues to develop options for physical development. This position advises the Campus Architect/AVC in assessing and prioritizing campus capital needs and responding to directives related to the capital program. Provide staff support and technical expertise for committees related to physical and environmental planning issues. Representing the unit as needed on campus, university-wide and external agency settings, and City of Riverside, as appropriate.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Master's degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City Planning or other planning-related field. Preferred

6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred

Must successfully pass a background check through the DOJ and FBI. Required

Minimum Requirements

Solid skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify resolution.
Broad knowledge of architecture, urban design, city planning or landscape architecture, including solid knowledge of building design or planning in a large-scale public or institutional setting.
Broad knowledge/skills in human and fiscal resources administration, including strong leadership and problem recognition/avoidance/resolution skills.
Demonstrated organizational, analytical, written and interpersonal communication skills, including strong negotiating skills and highly developed political acumen.
Solid organizational and customer service skills to effectively manage multiple priorities.
Solid knowledge of common computer application programs.
Demonstrated skills in employee supervision and HR administration.
Solid interpersonal communication skills to include verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated skills to effectively motivate others.

Broad knowledge of planning, design, construction, environmental issues, legal issues, federal, state and local laws, regulations and practices governing planning, and state/federal legislative processes.

Solid knowledge/skill in comprehensive complex planning operations management.

Ability to understand and analyze UC capital policy and process to determine approval requirements for capital program and projects and manage preparation of supporting documentation.
