Position Information
The Student Academic Specialist will report directly to the Assistant Dean and CFAO and work in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in the School of Education (SOE), the SOE Undergraduate Academic Advisors and Community Engaged Learning Coordinator to provide intensive writing support for undergraduate students majoring in education while at the same time serving as an academic coach. The incumbent will coordinate writing workshops with SOE Instructors and further enhance relationships with the Academic Resource Center, Library and CHASS F1RST in support of the undergraduate education students. The incumbent will also oversee a team of peer advisors who will provide writing support for undergraduate education students. The anticipated duration of the position is one year with the possibility of continuation contingent upon funding.

Develops knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students.
Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Knowledge of learning theories and training models.
Problem solving skills.
Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems.
