Position Information

UCR ARTS opened to the public in 2010, bringing together the California Museum of Photography and the Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts. Located three miles from UCR's main campus. Reporting to the Senior Curator at UCR ARTS, and working collaboratively with all UCR ARTS curators, exhibition design team, registrar, and the Associate Director of Education and Public Programs, the Exhibitions Manager will provide key logistical support for all exhibitions developed at both the California Museum of Photography and the Culver Center of the Arts. The Exhibitions Manager will work closely with the curatorial team on the development and execution of exhibitions and related projects including the coordination of in-house and traveling exhibitions, supporting the development of exhibition-related publications such as brochures and catalogues, and drafting and coordinating exhibition contracts & agreements and tour proposal materials. The Exhibitions Manager will represent UCR ARTS to the outside community, in particular with artists, galleries, and museums. Highlights of upcoming exhibitions include: The California Museum of Photography's 50th anniversary exhibition, a nationally touring exhibition featuring over 30 years of work by Christina Fernandez, and a Getty PST-funded exhibition focused on early digital photography.

Ability to prioritize and adjust heavy workload, manage a variety of tasks, and meet various deadlines with changing priorities, frequent interruptions, and conflicting deadlines. Required
Knowledge of high caliber art museum operations, standards, and procedures. Working knowledge of the art market, galleries, and museums. Required
Proven skills and abiliites in producing exhibitions and related activities that are highly organized, efficient, and professional. Required
Experience managing image rights. Preferred
Demonstrated ability to create effective relationships between museums, arts organizations and the community. Ability to influence and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels. Preferred
Prior museum experience working with photographs. Preferred
Experience in collections management best practices. Preferred
Experience in editing and publishing exhibition catalogues and materials. Preferred
Experience with managing exhibition project timelines and budgets Preferred
Proven supervisory and leadership skills; a solutions-oriented, diplomatic problem solver and true team player. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate is a savvy communicator that builds relationships across a broad and diverse spectrum. They will need to be able to manage tight schedules and varied personalities. They will regularly communicate with artists, museum and gallery professionals, UCR ARTS staff, community members, faculty, and campus constituents and are expected to do so in a way that promotes the success of the exhibition and the goals of the organization.
Knowledge of the principles of conservation, security, and environmental controls, ADA requirements for public buildings, and awareness of visitor needs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to write correspondence, reports, and publishable materials.
Supervisory and leadership abilities.
Knowledge of exhibition production and related construction work.
Knowledge of museum loan agreements & contracts.
Strong editorial skills
Knowledge of museum exhibition design field and current trends.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to discreetly and tactully recognize and address sensitive or confidential information.

Thorough knowledge of contemporary art with emphasis on photography.

Working knowledge of University and collective bargaining policies, practices, rules, regulations, including safety rules and regulations.
