Financial Aid Counselor (Hybrid)

Position Information

Participates with other counselors, the Assistant Director and Associate Director in the ongoing development and
enhancement of the UCR Financial Aid Office processing system (Banner); presents financial aid information both
on and off-campus to groups of students, prospective students; active contributor to discussions and recommends change when appropriate to better meet the needs to the populations served; use an understanding of the special
needs and problems experienced by students from disadvantaged backgrounds and address these needs by
offering supportive guidance, options and when appropriate, financial assistance. Provide guidance on
supplementary forms and explanations needed to meet individual circumstances; composes correspondence to
students and other clients relative to aid eligibility and office policy and procedures; performs special assignments
and other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid, Associate Director, or Assistant Director.

As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. All Covered Individuals under the policy must provide proof of Full Vaccination or, if applicable, submit a request for Exception (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy) no later than the applicable deadline. For new University of California employees, the applicable deadline is eight weeks after their first date of employment.

The budgeted hourly range for this position is $23.18 - $28.74.

Basic knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid.
Experience using complex databases.
Ability to calculate financial aid with attention to detail and accuracy.
Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Proficiency with standard office software, internet, and email applications. Basic knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
Ability to assess processes and recommend improvements. Good interpersonal skills.
Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of the SAVE System.

Ability to exercise advising and counseling skills by analyzing a variety of factors (financial data, family circumstances, social background, academic status, educational goals) and applies knowledge of federal, state, University, and outside agency laws, regulations, and policies to determine students' eligibility for various types of financial aid.

Specialized knowledge of particular programs and verification procedures to include R2T4 and resolution of C comments.

Ability to travel to on and off campus presentations, workshops, and conferences. Ability to occasionally work overtime during peak periods.

Strong experience in professional judgment decisions.

Basic knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.

Ability to resolve marital status conflicting information.
