Position Information

The Department of Botany & Plant Sciences is seeking a senior analyst to assist principal investigators (PIs) with pre- and post- award administration of contracts and grants. The incumbent will provide leadership and high level administrative and technical support for contract and grant application process and post award fund administration. Will be responsible for proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires thorough understanding of complex regulations. The incumbent will also have responsibility for managing sales and service, and, gift funds. Under the general supervision of the Financial Operations Manager, the incumbent will work in partnership with a team of three other analysts to manage over 280 fund sources within one large multidisciplinary research and teaching unit. They will prepare agency-specific, multi-year budgets and coordinate the submission of proposals to multiple agencies; prepare comprehensive and detailed reports; assist faculty in planning for the effective and appropriate use of all their funds; ensure compliance with agency-specific terms and conditions, federal OMB circulars, and UC policy; and coordinate all aspects of Sales and Service funds. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert resource for contracts and grants, and sales and service to other department analysts. The budgeted hiring range is $58,000 to $75,000.

Multiple positions may be hired from this recruitment based on need. This recruitment will run with concurrent recruitment number 26467704, Research Administrator 2.

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor's guidelines.
Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of UC Policies and procedures and on-line financial systems.

Demonstrated financial and contract & grant experience in an Organized Research Unit.

Extensive knowledge of UC Systemwide and campus contracts and grants policies and procedures.
