Position Information
The Worker's Compensation and Disability Management Program Manager plans, organizes, administers and supervises the campus Workers' Compensation and Disability Management Program, including reviewing and processing claims, participating in settlement negotiations, recommending loss control strategies, ensuring program conformance to applicable laws and regulations, preparing required reports, and monitoring and evaluating the program activities to ensure the delivery of quality services. This position is also responsible for the design, development, overall management and implementation of the University-wide Worker's Compensation program and disability management programs which encompasses: Worker's Compensation, disability management programs, Transitional Return to Work (TRTW) programs, and Work Strong. The position will liaise with Sedgwick CMS (Workers' Compensation Third Party Administrator), Occupational Health, Central Human Resources, EH&S, Risk Management, UC Office of the President Risk and Safety as well as with physicians, nurses, attorneys and state and federal representatives. The incumbent is responsible to stay current on relevant federal and state laws and regulations, such as Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), CA Labor Codes and CA FEHA, and ensures campus compliance with such laws, as well as campus and system-wide policies governing workers' compensation and disability management. This position is responsible for promoting the health, wellness and safety of of employees while reducing the financial risks associated with injuries and illness. Provides guidance to campus administration regarding development of integrated disability management programs. Will analyze disability data to identify trends in order to implement loss control and loss prevention measures. Oversees case management, through subordinates in assisting employees, managers and supervisors regarding disability matters, including reasonable accommodation and the interactive process. Creates and recommends to campus leadership policy and process improvements regarding University disability issues. Oversees training and education of managers and supervisors regarding disability issues. Coordinates programs and services with other faculty and staff programs.

Minimum Requirements
Specialized knowledge and experience in affected program area (workers' compensation, vocational rehabilitation, general liability, professional liability, disability management, et cetera.) and applicable laws.
Broad understanding of costs, benchmarking and best practices as they relate to risk management activities.
Ability to multi-task.
Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels across the organization, outside vendors and administrators.
Strong management experience and ability to administer complex office that supports services to faculty and staff.
Client services orientation - good listening, critical thinking and analytical skills.
Strong collaborative and communication skills to interface departmental services with other faculty, staff, student and community programs.
Ability to analyze complex issues and provide solutions prior to the escalation of the issue. Will analyze complex issues, evaluate alternatives, problem solve and implement solutions.
Ability to utilize and access computer and appropriate software (e.g. Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and job-specific systems to produce correspondence, charts, spreadsheets, and/or other information applicable to the position assignment.
