Position Information

The Academic Senate completes the shared governance mandate of the UC Board of Regents, to exercise direct control over academic matters of central importance to the University. The Senate is comprised of the Executive Council and more than 25 standing committees (and ad hoc committees). The Academic Senate has oversight responsibility for mission critical policies including curricula, instruction, course approval, admissions, faculty promotion and tenure. Under the general direction and guidance of the Executive Director, the incumbent will provide analytical and administrative support for committee operations. Since the chair and membership rotate from year to year, the Analyst will:
• Provide continuity and historical perspective necessary to accommodate changes and maintain consistency;
• Conduct research, provide comparative reports, statistical analyses and historical summaries, and make judgments, decisions and recommendations that are necessary for smooth and consistent administrative oversight;
• Counsel and serve as a resource Analyst to the chairs, committee members and campus community on policies and procedures in the full range of committee responsibilities and duties;
• Maintain a complete record of all actions and decisions in accordance with Senate and university requirements.

Under the general guidance and direction of the Executive Director and Senate Chair, the incumbent provides analytical and administrative support to Senate Committees and the Senate Executive Office. The Senate incumbent will support, advise, and handle the administrative matters for the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP), as well as, support Academic Personnel Ad Hocs; and field, respond to, and archive Academic Senate Bylaw 55 matters. The Analyst will also coordinate the statutory work of the Committee on Faculty Welfare (CFW), and that of the Committee on Planning and Budget (P&B). For CFW, The coordinating Analyst reviews, analyzes, and makes recommendations regarding faculty welfare policy and issues as well as participates in development of and advises on implementation of policies. For P&B, The assigned Analyst is responsible for overseeing committee functions and assuring P&B carries out its statutory responsibilities to confer with and advise campus leadership and administrative units on matters of planning, budget, and resource allocations on both short and long-term bases.

Generally, Academic Senate Analysts are responsible for overseeing committee functions and assuring each committee carries out its statutory responsibilities. In carrying out committee oversight and support, Analysts provide the full range of committee management and coordination. While assigned to support specific committees, Analysts are called upon to function as a member of the Academic Senate Office team. As such, Senate Analysts are expected to participate in activities that relate to the Academic Senate as a whole and are expected to assist all committee members, colleagues, and campus community members with a variety of needs associated with Academic Senate Office operation as well as provide effective back up during peak periods, absence of peers, and/or filling in during a vacancies. Analysts are expected to accept rotational committee assignments based upon operational priorities, needs and/or cross-training efforts.


Analysts are expected to have demonstrated extensive administrative experience in an office environment providing support for staff and/or faculty. Incumbents are expected to have experience with analyzing policy issues, UC policy and procedures, and other directives and forming solid recommendations. Adept knowledge of Microsoft and Google suite of applications, Adobe Acrobat, etc.. Currently, the position is in a hybrid work schedule. Vaccination is required or exemption (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy).

Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals/analyses.
Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
Experience with analyzing policy issues, UC policy and procedures, and other directives and forming solid recommendations.
Ability to interact with diverse and controversial issues and people in a professional and amiable manner.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with UC and UCR academic personnel policies, processes, and timelines.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail. Demonstrated skills in accurate record keeping.
