Position Information

The BEES Administrative Unit provides business services for a large and complex operation encompassing extensive teaching, research, and outreach components for the Botanic Gardens, Earth & Planetary Sciences, and Environmental Sciences in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS). In addition, BEES supports the UCR employees and campus purchases of the USDA Salinity Laboratory and provides conference management support for all units within CNAS. Reporting to the Financial Operations Manager, the Lead Research Administrator will provide direct support for the pre- and post-award administration for assigned Principal Investigators (PIs), ensuring compliance with agency-specific guidelines and institutional policies. Works on complex proposals and awards that may involve multiple investigators and/or multiple sub awards. Performs complex budget/resource analysis including forecasting, retrieving data from campus financial systems, organizing and validating data, and preparing comprehensive reports. Serves as a Subject Matter Expert and provides training and guidance to team members. Recommends enhancements to department processes to ensure accuracy and integrity of data. The successful incumbent will work with a diverse set of customers. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule. **Please note: While we do not anticipate that our position will be eligible for visa sponsorship, international applicants are still welcome to apply. The budgeted hiring range for this position is $58,000 - $96,100.

Minimum Requirements

Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor's guidelines.
Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of UC Systemwide and campus Contracts and Grants policies and procedures.

Demonstrated knowledge of UCR's financial systems.
