Position Information

The University of California system operates centers in Washington, DC (UCDC) and Sacramento, CA (UCCS)
where undergraduate students from across the UC system spend a term taking classes, pursuing academic
internships, and participating in professional development opportunities. Each UC campus is responsible for
recruiting students from the campus into the center programs; supporting them before, during, and after their
participation in the program; and working with staff at UCDC and UCCS to place students into internships in DC
and Sacramento. This position is primarily responsible for this work at UCR. The incumbent will collaborate with
UCDC and UCCS personnel, UCR faculty members, student affairs managers, academic advisors, and other
campus colleagues to enhance, market, grow, and evaluate the programs. The position is housed in
Undergraduate Education and reports up to the Associate Dean for University Honors, who oversees a portfolio
that includes the UCR Honors Program and high-impact educational programs including student-led courses,
undergraduate research, experiential learning, and leadership development. This position also assists senior staff
with implementation of these high-impact programs. The successful candidate is highly motivated and enjoys
working with colleagues who are focused on expanding access and opportunity to groups that are historically
under-represented in higher education. The successful candidate also has strong organizational, interpersonal,
communication, and problem-solving skills; has the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities; is able to
accomplish goals with minimal supervision; and thrives in a fast-paced work environment.

Interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of current research and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific, student-population specific).
Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.
Knowledge in designing and implementing learning and pedagogical models.
Multicultural competencies, knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Skills in judgment and decision-making.
Knowledge of academic curricula.
Knowledge of program development, data gathering, assessment, and evaluation skills.
Problem solving and organizational skills.
Experienced knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural/linguistic issues in applying academic support to students.

Preferred Qualifications

May require knowledge of NCAA policies, rules, and regulations.
