Position Information

UCR ARTS Preparator is responsible for assisting with all aspects of preparation and production of UCR ARTS exhibitions. The position will work under the direction of the Senior Preparator and will work closely with others in the museum to prepare physical and conceptual designs for contemporary and historical art and interactive exhibitions. Position will be full-time with occasional evening/weekend work required. Hiring range for this position is $35,433 to $38,043 annually.

Experience in light construction techniques, fine art framing, and dry mounting. Required

2-3 years experience working in the arts, construction, fine art framing or related experience. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge/practice in packing/shipping/receiving/condition reporting and care of a variety of fine arts objects and materials.
Computer proficiency. Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of products.
Ability to move and lift at least 60lbs.
Record of efficient performance in installing fine art exhibits under strict timelines with close attention to detail, or similar activity.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills applicable to a deadline oriented, creative, and academic atmosphere.
Knowledge of digital media installation techniques for projectors, televisions, audio installations, and lighting.
Knowledge of contemporary museum design, practices and standards.
Knowledge/practice in packing/shipping, receiving, and care of a variety of fine arts objects and materials
Ability to read and interpret construction drawing and plans for fabrication.
Ability to function independently and take responsibility fo results.
Ability to work in small, confined spaces and at heights on lifts and ladders for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

Skills in the use of power and hand tools used in the fabrication of exhibition furniture. (miter saw, table saw, panel saw, etc.)

Knowledge of shop safety procedures, tool maintenance, and inventory management.

Knowledge/practice of materials used in preparation and care of works on paper and photographic materials.
