Position Information
Degree Completion Advisors at UCR University Extension provide academic advising, holistic services, and prescriptive guidance on academic policies and procedures for students participating in the University of California Degree Completion Program. This new, state-funded initiative aims to support working professionals, unemployed, and underemployed adults and serves two populations: UC students with incomplete degrees, who left between 2008-2020, and California residents with some college and no degree attainment.

This is a 2-year, grant-funded, annually renewed contract position with full benefits. This recruitment is for multiple hires.

Minimum Requirements
Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Skills in judgment, decision-making, and problem solving.
Knowledge of department/school/college policies, procedures, and requirements.
Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original idea to solve problems.
Knowledge of departmental/school/college courses and majors.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including active listening.
Ability to multi-task.
Ability to use interpersonal, communication, problem solving and listening skills to document patterns of student academic needs; to successfully meet needs; and to interact and provide guidance to students and parents from all backgrounds.
Ability to discuss and engage in practices directly related to equity, inclusion, identity development, diversity, and cultural competency and humility.
Ability to participate and contribute in a shared leadership model where collaboration, teamwork, and cooperation are emphasized in order to provide high quality student services.
Ability to make decisions and consult with supervisors as necessary, manage details of complex projects and processes, and to adapt to constantly shifting priorities and outcomes.
Skill in holistic advising and counseling approaches and experience with academic policies, procedures, and requirements in a higher education setting; recommending solutions to progression and requirement issues; ability to make proper referrals to other campus resources.
Ability to effectively facilitate workshops and present in public forums.
