Position Information
*Campus presence required with hybrid accommodations. * Under the general direction of the Sr. Executive Director, Central Programs, the Sr. Director of Development, Gift Planning will play an essential leadership role in the University's overall fundraising plan. The incumbent will be responsible for developing gift planning program strategy, enhancing program processes and policies, guiding the use of techniques and training resources, activating a portfolio of assigned prospects as well as contributing planned gift strategy for assigned prospects in colleague portfolios, and managing the Gift Planning team. The incumbent is responsible for building a pipeline of planned gift prospects nationwide and beyond, ultimately increasing deferred and outright giving by individuals for the benefit of colleges, departments, and programs campus wide. The Sr. Director is the lead fundraiser for the Office of Gift Planning responsible for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and principal gift donors and prospects. Utilizing available data and analytical tools, the Senior Director will oversee the strategy, creation, and implementation of the comprehensive marketing and communications plan designed to solicit planned gifts for the university; and the incumbent will ensure close collaboration between the Office of Gift Planning and University Relations staff, internal stakeholders, web developers, and outside contractors/vendors. Through direct fundraising, training, and collaborative efforts, deferred gift receipts should reach a significant percentage (25%-40%) of the annual fundraising goal for the UC Riverside Foundation. Please note: all university development officers sign three-year renewable contracts which include the same employee benefits afforded career employees.

For new University of California employees, the applicable deadline is ten weeks after their first date of employment. The budgeted amount for this position is up to $150,000.

Minimum Requirements
Expert level skills in maintaining confidentiality.
Proven experience in major and principal gift level solicitations, in blended gift strategy design and implementation, and in creative stewardship and recognition for legacy donors.
Expert organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Expert project/program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program/project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.
Strong sense of ethical conduct that inspires confidence and an ability to build trust that persuades colleagues and donor prospects toward action. Highly ethical, donor-centered outlook on gift planning, maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to sensitive donor relations issues while balancing the University's best interests.
Expert knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Expert knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and/or throughout higher education/healthcare, generally. Expert knowledge of the location, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Knowledgeable about federal and state legislation relative to charitable tax and gift planning; proven ability to maintain familiarity with applicable legislation and financial planning concepts.
Expert working knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
Exceptional organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Exceptional skill in communicating persuasively, both orally and in writing, about private gift fundraising in general and in particular as it applies to deferred gift fundraising.
Ability to conceptualize, design, and implement a development program on time and on budget.
Expert written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.
