Director of Student Life

Position Information

The incumbent will engage the Student Life team in strategic planning, professional development and regular, assessment of programmatic initiatives. This role is critical to delivering a transformative student life experience at UCR. Leads large scale event planning for Convocation and supports large scale events directly and indirectly through personnel management. This role will engage and connect with the surrounding local community, when appropriate. Supports free speech activity in collaboration with the Associate Dean and Assistant Dean of Students. Collaborates closely with areas across student affairs such as the Identity Centers, Residential Life, Highlander Student Union, Associated Students, Health, Wellness, and Safety as well as the University of California Police Department. This role must also work well with campus partners across the institution on an array of high-level committees on behalf of Student Life and Student Affairs. This role will provide leadership to the following areas: Orientation and New Student Programs, Associated Students Programming Board, Student Organizations, Fraternity and Sorority Involvement Center, Veterans Resource Center as well as Leadership and Service Programs. This portfolio may evolve in the future. The budgeted salary amount for this position is up to $97,920.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Advanced degree in related area. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Ability in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership, and intercultural competence.
Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.
Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
Strong knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Ability to infuse equity and diversity frameworks in strategic planning, programming and staff development.
Ability to stay abreast of emerging best practices and the ever changing student needs in regard to programming and large events.
Ability to assess programing and integrate data in decision making and planning.
Ability to effectively address conflict and work through complex and difficult issues.
Knowledge of Student Developmment theory and its application to Student Life.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.

Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

Skills in navigating change and supporting staff through the process.

Ability to create connections with academic partners to ensure a strong working relationship that benefits students holistically.
