Assistant Director, Competitive Sports

Position Information

Reporting to the Associate Director, Programs, the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports will be responsible for
the overall direction and management of the Competitive Sports Program portfolio which includes the Intramural Sports and the Club Sports programs. Responsibilities include, but not limited to program design, development
and implementation, risk management, budget preparation and management, facilities usage coordination, staff training, leadership development, sports clinics, record keeping and marketing and promotion of the program. Responsible for staying on the leading edge of the industry standard and trends in order to offer the highest quality competitive sports program. Advise and guide Student Clubs under the Recreation Department with their practices, coaches, tournaments and travel following all university and National guidelines, policies, and procedures. The budgeted salary range is $47,800 - $64,400.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required

Certifications

Red Cross CPR. Required
Standard First Aid Training Certification. Required

Experience

Experience Requirement
2 years of recreation or collegiate sports programming experience. Required
6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
Background in Referee/Official training, certificate and/or experience officiating various sports. Preferred
Demonstrated experience working in a camp environment. Preferred

Special Conditions

Special Condition Requirement
Ability to successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check. Required
Shift Work (hours outside standard Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM work hours) Required
Work schedule will include evening and weekend hours. Required

Minimum Requirements

Advanced proficiency in the use of computer applications relevant to job duties.
Demonstrates advanced client service leadership, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills to resolve non-standard issues.
Skills to deliver highly effective service orientation, program management, and make sound judgments decisions; able to use critical thinking skills to develop original and creative problem solving ideas in a varied and challenging environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Demonstrated ability to incorporate key program information for inclusion in web-based and other marketing materials.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization.
Advanced knowledge of program activity and best practices. Demonstrated ability to analyze and improve programs and processes as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of campus policies and procedures.

Active member of NIRSA and other professional organizations in the Competitive Sports field.
