Position Information

Under the general direction of the Lead Academic Advisor/Assistant Director in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) Undergraduate Academic Advising Center, the position provides fundamental academic advising to prospective and current undergraduate students and uses the principles of developmental academic advising and knowledge of teaching and learning theory to promote academic, career and life goals in an effort to support student academic success, retention, timeliness to degree and intellectual and personal development. This position is responsible for programs such as the CNAS Transition Advising program, the CNAS articulation officer, CNAS Scholarship and awards program, and the CNAS Commencement programmer.

As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. All Covered Individuals under the policy must provide proof of Full Vaccination or, if applicable, submit a request for Exception (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy) no later than the applicable deadline. Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS+, Banner).
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving.
Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Knowledge and ability to discern the regulations of FERPA.
Knowledge in and ability to counsel and advise students in higher education.
Ability to multi-task.
Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools.
Thorough knowledge of department/school college policies, procedures, and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong communication skills including speaking with clarity to individuals as well as conducting presentations for groups of 50-300.

Ability to train and hire peer mentors for programs as needed.

Thorough knowledge of college/school policies, procedures, and requirements.
