Position Information

The Senior Research Computing Facilitator position at the University of California, Riverside will play a crucial role in supporting researchers' access to and effective utilization of cutting-edge research computing resources, including the newly established Ursa Major partnership with Google Cloud Platform. The position will apply advanced computational and data science principles to partner with and support highly complex research computing technology, researchers, and research projects. This position will assist with implementing the new cutting-edge Ursa Major research computing service, providing researchers with access to high-performance workstations, auto-scaling HPC clusters, research AI and machine learning services, and secure research storage. This position will take part in the Research Computing Team's commitment to providing a secure research computing infrastructure and support services that will increase research output, grant funding, campus income, and prestige, positioning UCR as a leading R1 research university. The Senior Research Computing Facilitator will report to the Associate Director of Research Computing and occasionally stand in for the AD of Research Computing at departmental or organizational meetings.

This position is a 12 MONTH CONTRACT position and is classified as remote with occasional visits to campus as needed. Working hours will be based on Pacific Standard Time (PST). The maximum budgeted annual salary for the position is $150,000.

Bachelor's degree in Computer/Computational/Data Science, or Domain Sciences with computer/computational/data specialization or equivalent experience. Required
Master's degree in Computer/Computational/Data Science, or Domain Sciences with computer/computational/data specialization. Preferred

Experience

Experience Requirement
Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the security and confidentiality of research data and computing resources. Preferred
6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
Demonstrated experience in evaluating and implementing emerging technologies in the HPC/data science/CI space, and making recommendations to leadership on their potential value to the organization. Preferred
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing training programs for researchers on the use of research computing resources. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated ability to initiate research proposals and acquire funding.
In depth experience assessing a broad spectrum of technical and research needs and demands and establish priorities, delegate and/or lead development of solutions to meet such needs.
In depth ability to successfully work and/or lead multiple concurrent projects. Demonstrated research and technology project leadership and management skills.
Advanced experience working in a complex computing/data/CI environment encompassing all or some of the following: HPC, data science infrastructure and tools/software, and diverse domain science application base.
Demonstrated ability to regularly, effectively communicate with unit-level management.
Advanced knowledge of HPC/data science/CI.
Demonstrated advanced experience in one or more of the following: optimizing, benchmarking, HPC performance and power modeling, analyzing hardware, software, and applications for HPC/data/CI.
Highly advanced skills, and demonstrated experience associated with one or more of the following: HPC hardware and software power and performance analysis and research, design, modification, implementation and deployment of HPC or data science or CI applications and tools of large-scale scope.
Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization and to external research and education audiences.
In depth skills and experience in independently resolving complex computing/data/CI problems using introductory and/or intermediate principles.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with vendors and industry partners to stay current with the latest research computing technologies and resources.

Strong project management and organizational skills to coordinate and manage multiple projects and stakeholders.

Knowledge of best practices for data management, storage, and security in research computing environments, and the ability to provide guidance and support to researchers on these topics.

Ability to develop and deliver training and educational materials to researchers and technical staff on the effective use of HPC, data science, and CI tools and resources.
