Position Information

Provides high-quality psychiatric care to students at the University of California Riverside. This patient population is interesting, highly motivated, and generally very responsible about their psychiatric care. The position provides 90% face-to-face clinical time (60 minutes for new intakes, 30 minutes for follow-up visits) and 10% allotted for administrative tasks. Works collaboratively with a highly skilled team of case managers and psychologists within the Department of Behavioral Health, who offer 60-minute counseling sessions. Communicates as necessary with primary care physicians and with outside therapists. Collaborates with Care Coordination regarding hospitalized patients or patients with complicated medical needs. Meets with the Behavioral Health team weekly at staff meetings to review cases and practice matters. Other supports include robust informational systems, a user-friendly electronic medical record system, on-site member services, a quality management team, and expert practice management.

The expected budgeted pay scale for this position is $153,069.20 to $392,915.13 annually. Placement within the range is based on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position (e.g., related: education, experience, licensures, certifications, etc.) and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Degree Requirement
Graduate of an accredited Medical School and successful completion of a Psychiatry Residency at an ACGME accredited program. Required

Licenses

License Requirement
Current unrestricted License to practice medicine in the state of California. Possession of an unrestricted Federal DEA license and have a Board Certification in Psychiatry. Required
Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) / Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) card and must bemaintained in accordance with the American Heart Association standards. Required

Experience working with college age population. Preferred
Must have inpatient, outpatient and triaging experience in assessing and treating severe psychiatric disordersand substance abuse. Required
Minimum of 5 years of experience and authoritative knowledge of clinical principles and practices. Does not include residency training. Required

Minimum Requirements

Strong interest in working with college age patients. Awareness of special issues affecting students engaged inrigorous academic programs and experiencing life on campus and developmental issues as they impact astudents adjustment to campus life. Sensitivity to issues relating to cultural diversity and the problems inadjustment faced by native and foreign students in an unfamiliar environment. Sensitivity to mental health issuesof special importance to gay and lesbian students.
Knowledge of current psychiatric diagnosis and treatment principles relating to general practice, and specificallyto a young adult population.
Knowledge of issues of special importance to college/university students, including drug and alcohol use, eating disorders, chemical dependency and abuse, ADHD, LD, etc.
Knowledge of standards of psychiatric care in the greater community.
Knowledge of AAAHC requirements relating to psychiatric diagnosis, treatment and record keeping. Experience with ICD 9/ICDI0 coding, DSM-5 in billing.
Ability to work and communicate in a positive and cooperative manner in a multi-disciplinary environment. Goodwritten and oral communication skills using fluent English, including medical charting and correspondence.
Must be able to work in a collaborative manner.
A reasonable level of auditory acuity and be able to communicate effectively with students and their family and providers and staff.
Expert clinical skills.
Must be able to diagnose patient condition and make associated treatment recommendations.
Must be able to influence others.
Must have effective diagnostic and decision making skills in area of specialty/expertise.
Knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality and patient privacy issues pertaining to the delivery of health care. Experience with Electronic Medical Records.
