Position Information

Under general supervision, the Campus Safety Responder guards and protects University property with a high intrinsic or monetary value, or a high hazard potential such as open art displays or highly flammable materials; maintains order among crowds at public events, but does not carry firearms; control entry to restricted areas; check the identity of persons seeking entry; inspect areas for security, fire, and accident hazards, and take action as required; watch for rule infractions and irregularities in University facilities; may answer questions and direct visitors; maintain public relations with all persons visiting assigned area; and patrol parking lots to prevent crime. Incumbents assigned to the UCR Police Department perform some or all the following duties: routine police reports, radio dispatching, emergency first aid, traffic control, building and grounds security, prisoner processing, record bureau assistance, safety escorts, safety protection to mental health response team, response to campus alarms, and assistance to sworn officers as required. Incumbents shall not be equipped with firearms. Campus Safety Responders are full-time, non-sworn (unarmed) employees of the UCR Police Department within the Health, Well-Being & Safety (HWS) organization, who support a tiered safety response by providing public safety services on campus and other nearby sites owned and/or controlled by the University.

This position has multiple openings.

The expected budgeted pay scale for this position is $43,513.92 to $57,461.76 annually. Placement within the range is based on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position (e.g., related: education, experience, licensures, certifications, etc.) and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver?s License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles by the date of hire and maintain throughout employment. Required

Certifications

Certification Requirement
Successfully complete Advanced First-Aid/CPR/AED certification within one year of hire and maintain throughout employment. Required
Possess a valid California Bureau of Security & Investigative Services Guard Card within six months of hire and maintain throughout employment. Required
Successfully complete a State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training 832 PC course within initial six months of employment and maintain certification throughout employment. Required
Must meet CANRA compliance requirement per California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act ("CANRA," Penal Code sections 11164-11174.4). Required

Special Condition Requirement
As a condition of employment, must successfully complete an extensive background investigation, including successfully completing an FBI fingerprinting process and maintain the successful completion of an FBI fingerprinting process throughout employment. Required
Must possess and maintain a valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Required
Ability to work variable shifts, including: evenings; nights; weekends; and holidays. Including the ability to work overtime, as needed, including hours outside of normal shift hours. Required

Minimum Requirements

Proven ability to accept instructions and direction from superiors in a positive manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills and abilities to relay rules, regulations, policies and directives. Strong verbal and written skills and ability to effectively communicate. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, editing, and proofreading methods.
Skill to accurately complete various reports and forms. Ability to document information and maintain accurate records. Ability to use personal computers, printers and word-processing and database software (e.g., Word and Outlook) in a networked environment.
Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and independently organize available work time to meet assigned responsibilities.
Ability to handle a high degree of public contact responsibility.
Strong ability to maintain a professional and impartial stance in all situations (especially emergencies).
Demonstrated ability to serve and work well with diverse community members, peers and superiors.
Ability to spend long hours on foot patrol of buildings, grounds, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent verbal and written communications skills required in both English and Spanish
