Position Information

The University of California, Riverside Libraries welcomes applicants for the position of Head of Collection Maintenance. The UCR Libraries is comprised of the Tomas Rivera Library, the Raymond L. Orbach Science Library, the Music Library, and the Multimedia Library. The Libraries serve the research and teaching needs of the campus and also serve the community as the regional research library for the Inland Empire. We are a member of the Association of Research Libraries and part of the consortium of University of California Libraries that supports and receives benefit from the California Digital Library.

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our team and assist with managing the Collection Maintenance Unit for the Tomas Rivera Library and Raymond L. Orbach Science Library. We are looking to hire a knowledgeable, customer friendly, team player to provide support within the organization for the management of staff and student employees. We are looking for a person with the skill to manage collections, budgets and lead major projects, including strong experience using spreadsheet, word processing and database programs. Hired applicant must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.

The classification level for this position is currently under review.

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrated ability to manage a multifunction unit, to organize varying workloads, and to establish priorities, and to analyze and manage resources to meet the goals for each function.

Experience in hiring, supervision, and staff development of career and casual staff.

Demonstrated ability to train and supervise staff and students and to evaluate quality and quantity of work performed.

Experience in a computer-reliant work environment and the ability to learn specialized software.

Demonstrated experience using an integrated library system such as Innovative Interfaces or similar.

Demonstrated skill in organizing, monitoring, and setting priorities for a heavy workload with multiple tasks and competing deadlines.

Ability to continually assess work flow processes with an eye toward efficiency and best practices.

Experience working with the public in a service oriented environment.

Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work successfully in an intensely collaborative environment with a broad range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds including colleagues, administrators, students, faculty, donors, and alumni

Excellent verbal and written communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively in person, via email, over the telephone.

Typing skills sufficient to enter data accurately.

Ability to apply special attention to detailed tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

Academic library experience.

Knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification system.

Knowledge of stacks maintenance procedures and practices.

Demonstrated experience using spreadsheet, word processing, and database programs.

Working knowledge of web application tools such as blogs, content management software, doodle, web forms.

Demonstrated ability to export data with the analytical skills to interpret numerical data.

Demonstrated success working in a collaborative, team-based work environment.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
