Position Information
Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Capital Asset Strategies (CAS), the Director of Capital Asset Management is responsible for providing executive leadership in planning, organizing, and directing the Capital Asset Management Unit; supporting campus and CAS division initiatives to create spaces needed to achieve the vision of current campus leadership; and performing a variety of consulting services for executive management and campus clients, including development of financial models, feasibility studies, alternate scenarios, and real estate services. The position provides general direction for campus real estate functions, and collaborates closely with other capital-related units to realize campus and division objectives.
Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business Administration, Public Management, or related field, and ten (10) years of recent, progressively responsible relevant experience in real estate, project construction, government, higher education, or related industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Contracts Management Experience: Prior senior management role(s) managing projects, ad hoc analysis, and reporting; application of commercial real estate practices and law to lease contract development and interpretation; application of principles of real estate leasing, licensing, purchase and sale, ground leasing, and finance.
Operations Management Experience: Demonstrated track record developing and monitoring strategic and operating plans, and the associated financial and management models and budgets, for managing projects and operations, including needed analysis and reporting. Ability to design effective performance measures for teams, processes, and services, and use the results to help shape successful working environments and forecast staff requirements.
Knowledge of real estate law, relevant regulations, and requirements related to commercial real estate practices, including lease contract development; requirements and processes to satisfactorily meet government reporting requirements for financial activities (e.g., Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards, etc.) pertaining to the accountability and stewardship of university resources; business processes and controls related to capital asset and real estate management; and features of relational database and web-based applications.
Analysis and Communication Skills: Broad range of communication skills (verbal, written, formal presentations) needed to shape and advance management initiatives, and to build alliances and partnerships; skills needed in analyzing policy issues to form solid recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, supervisor, review, and participate in the technical activities of appraisal, acquisition, negotiation, and investigation related to University real property interests; learn basic capital asset enterprise systems (e.g., Primavera, Archibus, Facilities Management System, Computer Aided Design (CAD), and Geographic Information System (GIS) programs).

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Business Administration or related field and/or a professional certification.
Knowledge of UC budget and accounting policies.
Construction industry experience in a university or public sector environment and knowledge of relevant regulations and requirements (e.g., Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars).
California real estate salesperson's or broker's license.
Experience leading an organization through a significant transformation or change process.
Knowledge of UC budget and accounting policies.
