Position Information
The Campus Fire Marshal directs the development, implementation, and management of the Fire Prevention Program, a major segment of the EH&S Department's programs. This includes development, organization, implementation, and management of a comprehensive fire and life safety program that is responsive to the complex demands of a dynamic and eminently technical research environment. The Campus Fire Marshal (CFM) has been delegated the authority to act on behalf of the State Fire Marshal as the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). As such, the CFM functions as the designated lead authority; responsible for the program which includes review and approval of all campus construction building plans, provide construction inspections, and final building acceptance prior to occupancy for all matters related to fire and life safety. This authority is delegated as the result of a negotiated Memorandum of Understanding between the University of California, the Office of the President, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal. This designation from the State Fire Marshal is bestowed upon specific individuals, not the position designation. This position is an integral and key function in support of the Campus Capital Plan. This position supervises and oversees the work of the Deputy Fire Marshal, The Campus Fire Inspector, and the Fire Prevention Specialist.
