Position Information

Under the general direction of the Research Safety Manager and with a dotted line reporting to the Senior Industrial Hygienist, the Industrial Hygienist/Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Coordinator serves as the subject matter expert who assists, identifies, and coordinates the distribution of lab coats, safety eye-wear, respirators and other personal protective equipment to campus research laboratories and campus support staff based on risk and hazard assessments. The incumbent is responsible for training personnel in the proper use of personal protective equipment. The incumbent ensures compliance with University of California Office of the President (UCOP) PPE Policy by overseeing, monitoring and managing compliance of PPE use in all areas involving hazardous materials and campus research laboratories to ensure safe procedures are properly followed. The incumbent works directly with EH&S leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of an effective PPE program; anticipate PPE needs, manages and maintains inventory, develops and manages PPE compliance metrics, manages monthly billing reports and ensures the accuracy of billing through systematic and routine audits, and recommends and implements corrective actions. Collaborates with campus faculty, student and staff in the efficient and integrated delivery of PPE including training to the campus community. Also performs other lab safety tasks including, but not limited to, PPE consultations, general laboratory inspections, providing regulatory interpretation, technical advice and guidance, and addressing lab safety questions. The incumbent also provides support to the campus community in the field of industrial hygiene and campus health and safety programs or services. The incumbent helps the campus comply with state and federal safety regulations and provides guidance and assistance to campus employees so that they will work in accordance with applicable health, safety, and environmental laws, regulations and good practice. This position will be responsible for managing the department's industrial hygiene equipment. This includes equipment calibration, maintenance, inventory and cross training other EH&S professionals on appropriate use and interpretation of sampling data. Incumbent will routinely use equipment for personal and environmental monitoring/sampling needs, interpret results and write reports to provide recommendations to reduce potential exposures to hazardous materials and conditions.

**Please Note: The budgeted salary range is up to $91,400 annually.**
