Position Information

UCR ARTS opened to the public in 2010, bringing together the California Museum of Photography and the Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts. UCR ARTS is a museum and art center with national and international visibility and engagement through its acclaimed exhibitions, performances, collections, programs, and research center. We are in downtown Riverside, California, 3 miles from the main campus. The UCR ARTS Director of External Relations (DER) is a senior professional who is focused on increasing philanthropic giving and public understanding for UCR ARTS and communicating UCR ARTS' value and impact on the Inland Empire, California, and the nation. This position is critical for the success of the museum and arts center programming and operations. The successful candidate will broaden our network of funders and supporters, and strengthen relationships with outside constituencies including philanthropists, businesses, granting agencies, and state and national Foundations. The primary activity of the DER will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial metrics and attendance goals. The DER reports to the UCR ARTS Executive Director. This will be a 1-year contract position with the opportunity for annual renewal based on achieving established performance goals.

Minimum Requirements

Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, techniques and applications relevant to the field of promotion and advertising.
Skill in mentoring less experienced staff.
Advanced analytical and research skills.
Advanced skills in developing, designing and implementing creative promotional and advertising strategies.
Advanced written, visual, interpersonal communication and political acumen skills.
Demonstrated ability to secure philanthropic and grant support within a complex institutional setting.
Ability to work collaboratively and productively with colleagues to foster a positive and cooperative work environment.
Demonstrated ability to work within a 12-month framework of philanthropic goals.
Advanced organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of applicable campus and/or medical center policies and state and federal laws pertaining to marketing and advertising issues and concerns and other related policies or laws.

Advanced knowledge of the campus and/or medical center, including its achievements, mission, goals, vision, objectives and infrastructure.

Advanced knowledge of the campus and/or medical center's product lines and services.

Knowledge of UCR ARTS, including its achievements, mission, goals, vision, objectives and infrastructure.

Advanced knowledge of photography, contemporary visual and performing arts.
