Position Information

The Senior Licensing Officer will primarily be responsible for managing the commercialization of the agriculture technology intellectual property (IP) portfolio, but may also include other technology areas such as clean energy & fuels, clean transportation & infrastructure, natural resource management, food security, health & health disparity, as required. The Senior Licensing Officer will focus on research, assessment, and marketing of UCR IP, negotiating complex technology transfer agreements, monitoring licensee performance and obligations, and engagement with faculty and students to support technology transfer and entrepreneurial activities on campus and commercialization of their inventions. The incumbent is expected to interact with internal and external stakeholders, including others on the Technology Commercialization and Technology Partnerships team, UCR faculty and students, entrepreneurs, and industry partners. The Senior Licensing Officer should be an experienced, customer-service oriented professional in technology transfer with the ability to communicate effectively and plan, organize, and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments. This position will report to the Director of Technology Commercialization as part of the Office of Technology Partnerships within Research and Economic Development at the University of California, Riverside.

Some aspects of this position maybe performed remotely. **As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. Bachelor's degree in related area. Required
Advanced degree. Preferred
Advanced degree in Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics, Plant Biology, Plant Pathology, or similar fields. Preferred
MBA and/or JD. Preferred

Certifications

Certification Requirement
Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) or Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP). Preferred

Experience

Experience Requirement
Experience in business development or sales related to commercialization of agriculture biotech technologies or products. Preferred
4 - 7 years of related experience. Required
Experience in an entrepreneurial or startup environment. Preferred

Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Thorough knowledge of and application of standard principles, theories, and concepts and techniques such as laws, regulations, and practices pertaining to the protection and management of intellectual property, university technology transfer, and general scientific and/or technical skills in subject matter area.
Ability to market technology to industrial partners; knowledge of contracts and grants.
Ability to perform market research and business analysis. Ability to develop strategies for the evaluation, prosecution, marketing, commercialization, and ongoing management of intellectual property and license agreements.
Solid communicator: includes verbal and written communications, active listening, critical thinking, and persuasiveness.
Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service oriented individual who will be responsive to the needs of faculty, students, staff, entrepreneurs, and industry partners.
Demonstrated energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to make and utilize new contacts.
Precise attention to detail, well organized, follow-through to conclusion of actions, with ability to identify errors, offer resolution, and to meet strict deadlines.
