Position Information
Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean for Development, Bourns College of Engineering (BCOE), the Director of Development, BCOE increases private philanthropy (individual, foundation, and corporate) to BCOE through major, principal, and planned gifts. The incumbent will implement programs of engagement between the campus and external constituencies in support of multiple fundraising projects that may include, and are not limited to: makerspaces, student organizations, women in philanthropy, department or center-specific projects, and endowed scholarships, fellowships, and chairs. UCR development places a high value on collaboration and active participation in professional development.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. All Covered Individuals under the policy must provide proof of Full Vaccination or, if applicable, submit a request for Exception (based on Medical Exemption, Disability, and/or Religious Objection) or Deferral (based on pregnancy) no later than the applicable deadline. For new University of California employees, the applicable deadline is eight weeks after their first date of employment. Please note: all university development officers sign three-year renewable contracts which include the same employee benefits afforded career employees. The budgeted amount for this position is up to $105,000. Additionally, this position is eligible for hybrid/remote accommodations.

Minimum Requirements
Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills,
including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working
relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Ability to make persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives
for a location in order to secure gifts.
Understanding of standard office productivity software including Microsoft suite of programs.
Good organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Demonstrated success at meeting predetermined goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, execution, and evaluation.
Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and prospects.
Ability to work effectively with deans and directors, academic and university leaders and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.
Ability to work effectively with advancement staff in devising, analyzing, modifying, implementing, and evaluating development programs.
Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
Very strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.
Advanced organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution, and strong project management skills.
Proven success at fundraising by developing and implementing strategic plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institutional goals, and closing gifts ($25,000+) from individuals, corporations, and foundations, both local and national.
Ability to work effectively with student organizations, parent programs, and faculty.

General knowledge of various types of charitable gifts, including in-kind gifts, gifts of securities, planned giving vehicles, and gifts of real property.
Advanced working knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and/or throughout higher education/healthcare generally. Advanced working of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Experience supporting capital or comprehensive campaigns in higher education.
Experience using Raiser's Edge or other CRM databases.
Experience with exporting/importing data from or to different software applications; and operating knowledge of internet for data gathering purposes.
Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of major gift fundraising, preferably within a major research university environment.
Advanced working knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and/or throughout higher education/healthcare generally. Advanced working of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
