Nursery Technician

Position Information

Position will augment the current staffing in the UCR Botanic Gardens. Current and this new Nursery Technicians will be assigned tasks and zones to better cover the 40 acre Gardens, dozens of garden beds, trails, and maintenance needs. Incumbent will perform gardening and maintenance tasks in the Botanic Gardens, including care and maintenance of in-ground and potted plants, garden beds, lawns, orchard, trails, and walkways. Duties include preparing soil for planting, installing plants, trimming and pruning plants and removing refuse, removing weeds, watering by hand or using sprinklers, and performing minor maintenance on walkways, garden structures (e.g., gazebos and fences), and retaining walls. Assist in preparing and installing memorial benches and plaques. Will use hand tools and power tools including mowers, weed whackers, saws, blowers, drills, and others as required. Will operate pickup truck and off-road vehicles in performing work. The budgeted hiring range for this position is $39,004.

Degree Requirement
Ability to read, write and perform arithmetic calculations; two years of training and experience in nursery techniques; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Required

Minimum Requirements

Skill in performing irrigation of plants in pots and in ground

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of basic carpentry and repair of structures

Skill in using tools for basic carpentry, repair, and maintenance

Knowledge of computer software including Office suite products

Skill in using basic computer software including Office suite products
