Project Manager, University Communications

Position Information

Reporting to the Executive Director of Brand and Creative Services, the Project Manager will help support the branding, marketing, design, and multimedia communications services offered by University Communications. This position will employ Workfront and other project management tools and best practices to support the timely completion of a broad range of print and digital marcom initiatives, including brand and fundraising campaigns, media relations, e-communications, enrollment marketing, targeted advertising efforts, environmental signage, Canva assets, and a mix of large scale campus events (ex: Homecoming, Highlander Day, and Commencement) and targeted regional outreach events. The position will serve as the first point of contact for all new project requests and, in collaboration with two Assistant Directors of Creative, recommend and track design staff assignments, facilitate project consultations and client communications, coordinate occasional freelance assignments and ad placements, assess/track/manage design team bandwidth, secure vendor cost estimates and help facilitate payments, create activity dashboard reports, and track deadlines/tasks to ensure timely delivery of assets.

For new University of California employees, the applicable deadline is eight weeks after their first date of employment. Please note: a hybrid schedule of on campus and remote will be considered. Additionally, the budgeted amount for this position is up to $70,000.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
Ability to master project management software, including time-tracking and analytics reports.
Ability to organize, independently prioritize, and manage a wide variety of responsibilities and projects.
Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans.
Ability to establish and maintain exceptional client relations and partnerships. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations, internal and external constituents and agencies.
Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
Strong project management skills, excellent time management, strong attention to detail, and results-driven.
Ability to coordinate work, projects, and services with multiple departments managers/staff, campus partners, and external entities.
Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and/or broad general audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.

Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and/or health sciences.
