Under the direction of the Police Lieutenant, the Dispatch Supervisor will supervise the Police & Safety Services Communications Center, a 24-hour/7 day per week operation with dispatch staff. Provides direct supervision to dispatcher staff. Interfaces with appropriate supervisory personnel to ensure the dispatchers provide quality service. Supervision of the dispatch center entails a full range of core responsibilities, including, in part: recruiting/hiring, assigning work and work schedules, performance management, records management, and statistical reporting.

The Dispatch Supervisor ensures that all Public Safety Dispatchers meet the bi-annual Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) continuing professional training requirements; and coordinates the equipment and service delivery for various communications systems (e.g. CAD/RMS systems and campus alarms). Conduct training of dispatchers, as well as periodic and annual reviews. Provide reports to the Lieutenant on the performance of all dispatchers and on all problems that occur which may require management involvement. Ensure proper maintenance, use, and operation of assigned equipment, material, and supplies, including but not limited to reviewing logs, tape recordings, and databases, and by performing site inspections and audits as needed.

High school diploma or equivalent. Required
Relevant experience, training and/or college units. Preferred

Licenses

Possess a valid California Driver's License. Required

Certifications

Certification Requirement
Ability to successfully earn the POST Supervisory certificate by completing a POST-certified 80-hour Supervisor course within one year of appointment and serving as a Sergeant for a period of two years. Required
Possess Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate Required

Experience

Previous experience supervising staff covered under collectivebargaining agreements. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Ability to operate computers and other relevant technology.
Experience performing all aspects of unit functions.
Ability to safely operate motor vehicles.
Working knowledge of the California Public Records Act and other law, regulation and University policy regarding police documentation and data.
Ability to supervise and train assigned staff in the relevant and necessary aspects of their duties.
Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
Ability to manage and maintain records, forms, files, databases, and other information in accordance with storage, security, and retention requirements.
Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload, high call volume, interruptions, and competing priorities and requirements.
Working knowledge and familiarity with the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS).

Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge and/or experience with POST standards and training.

Knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Act.

Knowledge of DOJ reporting requirements.

Skill and ability to compile and analyze data and statistics for departmental, campus, reports, or other purposes as assigned.

Working knowledge and/or experience providing fiscal administration support; development of policy, budget, and other planning for the unit.

Knowledge of UCR campus locations, policies, and procedures.

Knowledge of RIMs Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) and reporting software.
