Position Information

Under the general direction of The Office of TRIO Programs, Pre-College Director, the Educational Talent Search (ETS) Assistant Director is responsible for meeting the objectives of the program, as set forth in the Educational Talent Search approved grant proposal. The ETS Assistant Director designs and implements grade-appropriate college-going workshops, curricula, materials, and activities and delivers individual and group advising services for K-14 students. The incumbent will develop and maintain relationships with parents/families and school contacts to support student academic success and access to higher education. The ETS Assistant Director plans, implements, and evaluates the ETS services for student participants in accordance with Federal Guidelines and stated project objectives as outlined in the grant proposal and works with the Director to prepare and submit the Annual Performance Report to the Department of education. ETS is funded by a TRIO grant through the U.S. Department of Education. All ETS positions, including the ETS Assistant Director position are funded by grant funds. The project is currently in year one of the performance period and positions may be extended based on funding and program needs. The budgeted hiring range for this position is between $48,400.00 - $53,619.00.

Work on weekends, evenings, attend overnight trips and provide overnight supervision for summer programs. Required

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation urban youth.
Ability to establish and maintains cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts.
Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
Strong knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population.
Knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid requirements, and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
Significant experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
Strong knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies.
Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
Strong knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to evaluate academic documents, including high school transcripts, state testing scores, progress reports and academic skill assessments.

Experience in supervising professional and student staff.

Knowledge and experience in budget forecasting, maintaining cost effectiveness to implement grant budget and implementing TRiO Regulations.

Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish.
