Instructional Technologist/Video Production Specialist

Position Information

Under the direction of the Director of the Office of Faculty Development, the Instructional Technologist/Video Production Specialist will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of educational technology initiatives in the SOM. The Instructional Technologist/Video Production Specialist supports faculty in integrating technology into their teaching in pedagogically sound ways and produces quality video learning assets. Evaluates educational technology including software and hardware that support faculty and student learning. Provides ongoing training and support to faculty in learning to use a range of educational technology tools including the learning management system, evaluation software and tools that support online and hybrid learning models. This includes support for courses, self-paced learning modules, audio/video components and other resources for faculty. The instructional Technologist/Video Production Specialist consults with faculty and instructional designers, recommends media and tools, and produces multimedia for the Office of Faculty Development and faculty. Responsible for developing and delivering faculty development and technical training to faculty.

Degree Requirement
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Bachelor's degree in Instructional or Educational Technology or Education. Preferred
Master's degree in Educational Technology. Preferred

Licenses

Valid Driver License Preferred

Experience

Experience Requirement
Previous relevant work experience as an Instructional Technologist, Instructional Developer, Instructional Designer or Videographer. Preferred
4 - 7 years of related experience. Required
Previous experience in higher education. Preferred
Experience with Canvas. Preferred

Special Conditions

Special Condition Requirement
Must pass a background check. Required
Occasional local travel to various SOM and affiliate sites. Required
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for Faculty Development events and tranings. Required
Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, if driving a university/personal vehicle for university related business. Required

Minimum Requirements

Strong demonstrated organizational skills in prioritizing and handling multiple complex assignments and projects with excellent attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to complete projects by deadlines.
Outstanding technical skills with a variety of educational and video production technologies, including, but not limited to Camtasia, Articulate, Yuja, Zoom, and other video and audio editing tools.
Ability to assess needs, define problems, collect data, draw valid conclusions, and effectively present information.
Skills to determine priorities based on knowledge of work area. Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem solving skills.
Ability to assess campus or institutional needs for AV IT technology products and design services to meet those needs.
Thorough understanding of post-production processes including internet-based media distribution solutions.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of computer, media, and networking technology.
Excellent skills in classroom and online teaching and/or at delivering of faculty development programming in a variety of teaching modalities.
Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Thorough customer service and consultative skills to identify and implement required technology solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

Thorough understanding of media production methods and equipment and ability to use this information to troubleshoot the most complex systems.

Knowledge of intellectual property (IP) restrictions and skill to ensure that media meets IP requirements.
