Communications and Public Relations Director

Position Information

The Communications and Public Relations Director plays a key role in devising media communications, building public relations, oversee AAPI Data’s social media, and develop strategic media initiatives to further advance the public presence of AAPI Data. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and highly collaborative leader with experience in developing and implementing communications strategies. Prior experience engaging with government agencies, elected officials, or community organizations is preferred. If chosen for interview, candidates will be asked to provide samples of prior work. This is a 2-year contract position, renewable depending on funding availability.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and/or broad general audiences.
Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.
Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans.
Knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
Thorough knowledge of web and digital development and delivery as well as brand and media management.
Knowledgeable in various diverse communications vehicles and how they can effectively deliver impactful messages and generate media activities and coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and/or health sciences.

Preference for candidates with experience in the key issues facing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities and with media contacts who cover these populations and issues such as immigration, race, health, and education.
