Position Information
The Scene Shop Supervisor / Head Carpenter oversees and manages set construction and installation for all theatrical productions and film/television projects for the Department of Theatre, Film, and Digital Production. They support and implement the technical and administrative needs required to efficiently execute the day-to-day operation of the scene shop. Additionally they are the primary point of contact and lead all activities associated with the build, installation, running, strike, and maintenance of scenery, properties, rigging, and related tools and equipment. The Scene Shop Supervisor / Head Carpenter directly supervises and assigns technical personnel to various phases of production, and reviews and evaluates student and employee work for grading or advancement. They help to plan long-range strategies for production and departmental operations, have a high working knowledge of scenery construction, structural design, engineering, construction process and styles, and exhibit a passion for the art of theatre and film. The Scene Shop Supervisor / Head Carpenter reports to the Production Director for the Performing Arts and collaborates with production staff, faculty, and other campus constituents to achieve departmental goals.

Minimum Requirements
Mastery level knowledge in multiple technical theater production areas such as lighting, sound, video, costumes, hair/make-up, properties, scenery, scenic treatment, et cetera. Thorough working knowledge of University and collective bargaining policies, practices, rules, regulations, et cetera, including safety rules and regulations.
Thorough problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills.
Thorough knowledge/skills in all aspects of budget administration.
Mastery level knowledge in multiple technical theater production areas such as lighting, sound, video, costumes, hair/make-up, properties, scenery, scenic treatment, etc.
Thorough verbal and interpersonal communication skills to communicate complex instructions and information to disparate constituencies.
Thorough organizational skills.
Good working knowledge of safety and Cal Osha regulations
Demonstrated knowledge of carpentry, welding, and scenery construction practices.
Demonstrated ability to draft scenic construction plans using Vectorworks, and understand and work off of technical drawings.
