Database Design Engineer

Position Information

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and the UME and SA leadership, The Database Design Engineer will be responsible for laying down the foundation of all data and its architecture for all Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) and Student Affairs (SA) applications. This position will work closely with the Undergraduate Medical Education and Student Affairs departments, Office of Information Technology, and other departments to maximize the reporting for the Banner (student information system) system and other curriculum applications. The main focus is data design, data integration, and data reporting. Assesses a wide range of data requirements and applies relevant database techniques to create a robust architecture. After periodic intervals, they will also test to identify bugs or performance issues. Responsible for maintaining the database and ensuring it works smoothly without causing any disruption. The budgeted salary amount for this position is up to $98,000/yr.

Minimum Requirements

Demonstrates interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, service orientation, active listening, effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills.
Advanced database querying and modeling skills working with moderately complex databases.
Knowledge relating to database system design.
Working knowledge of database management systems and standards.
Has effective written/verbal communication skills.
Knowledgeable about professional approaches and relevant standards and technology for management of unstructured data such as text and images.
Knowledge relating to capacity planning and interface specifications.
Demonstrates reasoning and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks.
Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making; problem identification and resolution; identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance through application configuration and programming techniques.
Experienced/Advance knowledge of SQL, NoSQL
Knowledge of Data warehouse
Knowledge of Data modeling
ETL (extra, transform, load) knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 / Microsoft Azure /GCP

Understanding the basics of distributed systems

Knowledge of algorithms and data structures

Knowledge of software development
