Position Information

As a member of the Recreation Department Program Management Team the Assistant Director - FitWell has full responsibility for the functional operations related to fitness & wellness programming and the instructional cooking program (Cooking Well). The Assistant Director provides strong, active leadership to the department and campus in these areas. The incumbent is responsible for the development, implementation and direct management/supervision of a wide variety of fitness, wellness, massage, and instructional cooking programming to serve all populations that comprise the campus and community. Responsibilities include purchase and layout of fitness / wellness/ kitchen equipment, inventory and preventative maintenance. Assess and implements risk management policies necessary to ensure the safety of the participants using the equipment and participating in the programs. The incumbent will work and coordinate extensively with a variety of campus departments both internal and external to the Student Affairs division. Examples of partners include the Campus Health Center, Counseling Center, Human Resources, Environmental Health and Safety, Housing Services, Dining Services, and Physical Plant. The incumbent is responsible for providing high profile leadership to the department and campus on all matters relating to fitness, wellness, massage, and instructional cooking.

Education

Degree Requirement
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Masters degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sports Management or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning. Preferred

Certifications

Certification Requirement
Red Cross CPR. Required
Standard First Aid Training Certification. Required
Health/Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer certification from a nationally accredited organization(s).ACSM, AFAA, ACE, NASM, NSCA - certificate from a minimum of one of the listed organizations Required

Experience

Experience Requirement
Minimum of 6 years of related experience. Required
6 - 10 years of related experience. Required
Previous supervisory/managerial experience. Preferred
