Associate Vice Chancellor, Development

Position Information

The associate vice chancellor for development (AVC) will report to the vice chancellor for university advancement. This individual will oversee 45 staff engaged in development work supporting college and school major and principal gifts, intercollegiate athletics, library, and university extension fundraising, corporate and foundation relations, gift planning, regional fundraising, and annual giving. The AVC will participate in the campus strategic planning process and build a comprehensive development program reflecting the university's overarching values and vision. The AVC will work closely with the vice chancellor, chancellor, provost, deans, and other university leadership to set priorities and annual goals to meet long-term university-wide objectives. He or she will also actively solicit feedback and input from deans, faculty, donors, and alumni to ensure that UCR's fundraising efforts are effective and reflect institutional priorities. The AVC will review the current development structures and activities to ensure they are effective, strategic, innovative, flexible, and donor-centric. Lastly, the AVC will build strong, trusting relationships with advancement colleagues and partners, and teams across the university, establishing a culture of philanthropy, collaboration, and service. Minimum Requirements

Working knowledge of foundations and non-profit, public benefit corporations.
Expert skills to conceive, design, implement and evaluate effective fundraising programs.
A keen eye for operational efficiency and optimal use of resources; the ability to plan, monitor, and manage a budget.
Expert knowledge of design and implementation of donor identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies and techniques.
Expert level political acumen.
A deep appreciation for the distinctive mission, history, achievements, and aspirations of the University of California, Riverside, and the ability to effectively articulate the University's vision and philanthropic priorities to diverse audiences, both internal and external.
Expert marketing skills.
Expert knowledge of leadership and management principles, concepts, techniques, etc.
Demonstrated experience developing and articulating a substantive and cohesive vision for strategic fundraising based on an institution's history and goals, successfully identifying and engaging prospective donors, and recognizing the need to adapt and adjust as appropriate over time.
Expert leadership/management skills, including skills to select, train, mentor, motivate and evaluate all levels of staff.
Expert knowledge of the campus and/or medical center, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objectives and issues of concern both on campus and/or medical center as well as in higher education and the medical sciences.
Expert strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical and persuasion/negotiation skills.
Expert skills to meet predetermined goals and objectives, including meeting fundraising goals and objectives.
Expert knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations, including principles, concepts, techniques and procedures.
Expert written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
