Position Information
Under the supervision of the Director of Teacher Education, the Academic Advisor interprets academic requirements and provides fundamental academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students, including advising for retention. The Academic Advisor also assists the Director in implementing a recruitment and retention plan/strategies (including participation on Recruitment/Marketing Committee) for students interested in pursuing a career in one of the teaching and education professions. The Academic Advisor develops and updates web information on career-related and admissions topics. Under supervision, uses principles of developmental academic advising to promote academic, career and life goals in an effort to support student retention, timeliness to degree, academic success, and intellectual and personal development. Under supervision, the Academic Advisor organizes workshops and conducts advising that support student retention and timeliness to credential and/or degree. Works collaboratively with other TEP staff to support student retention, and with other departments (i.e., Cashier's Office, Financial Aid Office, Graduate Division Admission Office, and Registrar's Office) on resolving problems with billing and the online admissions module in UCR's Student Information System. Serves as liaison between TEP and Financial Aid, which includes collaborating with financial aid to create procedures that facilitate disbursement of aid, and collaborating to create an advising process (including workshops) that helps students to understand financial resources available to them during the admission process after SIR-ing into the TEP. The Academic Advisor will also make teacher credential recommendations to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Incumbent helps with other TEP duties as needed.
The expected pay for this position is up to $65,000.
