Position Information

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Processing, the Financial Aid Technician III serves the public and executes various programmatic functions. This position verifies the accuracy of student information as provided on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as well as information provided on the Dream Act Application to verify documents according to federal, state, and university regulations. This position reviews for verification completeness and obtains additional student information as needed and/or due to conflicting information. This position ensures all requests for financial aid materials and subsequent written communication to the student regarding required documents, eligibility criteria, and miscellaneous communication are handled in a timely manner. Responsibilities require organization of work area, prioritization of workload, and understanding of and ability to use an automated student information system. The Financial Aid Technician III is responsible for ensuring that the maintenance of and disposition of records complies with university policies and federal regulations.

The Financial Aid Office works with a culturally and economically diverse population. The Financial Aid Technician III must be able to interact with students and parents with sensitivity and discretion, maintaining confidentiality at all times. This position requires specialized knowledge of complex federal, state, and university financial aid programs and the ability to process and convey this information accurately and clearly to students and parents. The responsibilities of the position require the ability to efficiently and effectively use automated systems, including mainframe, PC, and web-based applications. The incumbent must maintain a high level of organization in the administration of duties. This position must be able to work effectively with frequent interruptions and adjust priorities as circumstances dictate.

Please Note: This position has multiple openings.

The budgeted hourly/salary range for this position is $56,981.52 - $68,465.52.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Must successfully complete a background check through the University's background check agency prior to your start date, and a fingerprint check through the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigations.

Must possess or obtain a Valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, if driving a university/personal vehicle for university related business. Required

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices for awarding financial aid.
Ability to apply knowledge of policies to individual situations.
Excellent listening skills, patience, and ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of internal and external customers.
Ability to calculate financial aid with attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficiency with standard office software, internet, and email applications. Basic knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
Advanced organizational skills and ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
Demonstrates advance written and verbal communication skills. Active listening skills. Possesses customer service orientation skills.
Knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to exercise advising and counseling skills by analyzing a variety of factors (financial data, family circumstances, social background, academic status, educational goals) and applies knowledge of federal, state, University, and outside agency laws, regulations, and policies to determine students' eligibility for various types of financial aid.
